About Your Guide

John Robinson was born in Charleston and is descended from ancestors on the “first boat” to Charleston (1670), as well as relatives who defended Charleston in the Battle of Fort Sullivan (1776), the Siege of Charleston (1780) and who built the Aiken-Rhett house.  He is a member of several local historical groups and is an active amateur historian and researcher, having given lectures and talks to various Charleston and South Carolina organizations.  He constantly studies Charleston, Lowcountry, southern, and American history, piecing together new discoveries for his friends and clients.  John enjoys telling narrative history that includes folklore and which helps make history come alive.  John prides himself on talks that are informative but not boring, and that come with an adequate dose of Southern personality.  He and his family live in one of Charleston’s historic neighborhoods.
